Walker Bay Duathlon 2022

The Walker Bay triathlon in Hermanus was as usual an really fast and fun way to test your triathlon skills and see how your training is going. Only difference this year, was that the swim was cancelled, so it was changed to a harder version of triathlon called Duathlon! Duathlon is run/bike/run so really tests the legs! A quick last minute change for preparations as the athletes didn’t need their wetsuits or swim stuff any longer.

The duathlon was now a 5km run, 21km ride and then another 2.5km run (that turned out to be 3.1kms). The race is set right in the heart of Hermanus, so 100s of spectators watch the race unwittingly from their Bed and Breakfasts over looking the cliff paths and ocean where the athletes run. But the time the race is done, all the restaurants and cafes are jammed with athletes, race medals and spectators. Hermanus is really such a picturesque town and being able to have a triathlon there is amazing! Thanks for everyone involved in making it happen.

Our Embark athletes, as usual, raced their hearts out representing the Rednblackarmy. High fives were flying on the course as the triathletes cheered each other on throughout the race. This was a race that most of the Embark athletes do on their way to the main goal of IRONMAN 70.3 Durban. It’s a great race to see how training is going and to evaluate what still needs work. The morning ended up with a team breakfast at the bustling square over looking Hermanus.
