My Isuzu Ironman South Africa, By Michelle Stevenson

Taking on IMSA was one of the biggest challenges I’ve ever faced, but also one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

The journey to race day started months before the event itself. Training with Embark pushed me to work much harder than I ever thought I could, but it also gave me confidence in the process and belief in myself. Every session, every early morning, and every tough workout added another layer of preparation.

Standing on Hobie Beach waiting for the race to start was a surreal moment. There was nervous energy everywhere, but underneath it all was excitement. I knew I had done the work — now it was time to trust it.

The swim started out tough, but once I settled into my rhythm, I began to enjoy it. The atmosphere out in the water was incredible, and getting through that first leg gave me a huge boost of confidence heading into the bike.

The cycle route was absolutely beautiful. I was lucky enough to have perfect weather conditions, and I honestly enjoyed every moment on the bike. There’s something special about racing through incredible scenery while feeling strong and prepared.

By the time I got onto the run, I felt surprisingly good. I started out strong, although there was a little muscle soreness creeping in. The support along the route made such a difference and kept me motivated all the way through.

Crossing the finish line made every sacrifice and every training session worth it.

Absolutely yes. Without a doubt.

That moment is difficult to describe — a mixture of relief, pride, emotion, and gratitude all at once. Looking back now, I realise how much this journey taught me about consistency, resilience, and what’s possible when you commit fully to a goal.

A massive thank you to STeve and the Embark community for all the support along the way. I truly couldn’t have done it without you.
