Blue Lagoon Triathlon 2022

The Blue Lagoon Triathlon took place on the weekend of the 11th and 12th of February. We kicked the weekend off by riding to Mykonos in Langebaan with our more experienced riders and ironman athletes. As always our ride was supported by the ATC Isuzu D-Max and the Embark Isuzu MUX. The ride was 128 kilometers with the last section through the exquisite and picturesque West Coast National Park.

On Friday evening the Embark athletes did a walkthrough transition and swim start beach with the coaches. This allows the athletes to get acquainted with the course and to settle some nerves around the racing venue.

Saturday morning, nice and early the transition opened and the athletes racked their bikes for the standard distance and sprint distance races. A little after that the racing started. The seas were quite rough and choppy although the wind wasn't really blowing. We swam from the beach into the protected harbor and then back to the next beach along the coast. The bike was pancake flat, a beautiful route past the refinery and back. The run, although, was not flat at all. A very challenging hilly and slightly off road running route exploring the entire Mykonos venue including the cement pier out to sea.
An incredible day out for all our athletes as they crossed the line and raised their hands with joy because now they knew they could celebrate at the marina with a cold drink or beer and swap war stories.

The afternoon continued with prizegiving. The after party exploded into lots of dancing, socializing and meeting new people. Congratulations to all the first timers for completing their first triathlon and we look forward to the next race, Cape Ultra at Theewaters Dam on the 6th of March.
