100% Success For Our Robben Island Crossing

Another Robben Island Crossing, another 9 medals! After 3 months of cold water acclimatization and progressive weekly group and individual swims, the group gathered at the Oceania Power Boat Club, to set off for their (as the crow flies) 7.4kms through the Atlantic Ocean from Robben Island to Big Bay in Blouberg. The swimmers are briefed and then transported to Robben Island, where they jump off the boats and start their swim. Thanks very much to Derrick Frazer and his team from Big Bay Events for the utmost care they take in water safety.

Cramping, hyperthermia, and just not being fit enough are the biggest show stoppers on the day, so the build up in the training and race preparation is vital. Nicol Muller is our triathlon and open water swim coach, and this is the third crossing she has done with the athletes. A 98% success rate is definitely a stat to boast about! Well done Nicol and to all the swimmers for completing the tough enough challenge!

Our next program will start 30 August and proposed crossing week will be the week of 29th  November. For more details, check in with Nicol Muller or register here.
